Alert Day: Severe weather chances dissipate after early morning storms stabilize atmosphere (2024)

Tuesday started with a bang and will continue to keep the metro on its toes as multiple rounds of storms hit the Kansas City area.Tuesday is an Alert Day for storm cells capable of producing dangerous and severe weather. The first round began sweeping across the metro area around 6 a.m. and continued to do so until about noon.The next chance for severe weather rolls in around 1 p.m. and lasts until the early evening. A tornado watch remains in effect for several communities in mid-Missouri through the early evening hours.LIVE WEATHER UPDATES:4:16 p.m. -- The Kansas City metro is no longer under the threat of severe weather as the atmosphere stabilizes following the region's early morning storms and tornados. 3:18 p.m. -- Most of the counties near Kansas City have been removed from the tornado watch originally in effect until 6 p.m. Linn, Saline and Pettis county all remain under a Tornado Watch at this time. 2:30 p.m. -- Kansas City is recording non-thunderstorm-related wind gusts of over 60 mph in some parts of the metro.2:25 p.m. -- Jackson County has been dropped from the tornado watch in effect until the early evening east of the metro. 1:09 p.m. -- The National Weather Service in Topeka says an EF1 tornado touched down just southwest of Overbrook, Kansas earlier this morning around 6 a.m. It carried winds of up to 100 mph and was on the ground for about 10 miles. The tornado lasted about 20 minutes.Two people were injured by the storm, and several structures were damaged. The two victims of the storm were inside an RV that was flipped over and destroyed.12:48 p.m.-- A new severe storm warning has been issued for Grain Valley, Oak Grove, and Richmond in Missouri. 4:16 p.m. -- The Kansas City metro is no longer under the threat of severe weather as the atmosphere stabilizes following the region's early morning storms and tornados.

3:18 p.m. -- Most of the counties near Kansas City have been removed from the tornado watch originally in effect until 6 p.m. Linn, Saline and Pettis county all remain under a Tornado Watch at this time.

2:30 p.m. -- Kansas City is recording non-thunderstorm-related wind gusts of over 60 mph in some parts of the metro.

2:25 p.m. -- Jackson County has been dropped from the tornado watch in effect until the early evening east of the metro.

1:09 p.m. -- The National Weather Service in Topeka says an EF1 tornado touched down just southwest of Overbrook, Kansas earlier this morning around 6 a.m. It carried winds of up to 100 mph and was on the ground for about 10 miles.

The tornado lasted about 20 minutes.

10:11 a.m. -- A tornado warning has been issued for Smithville, Kearney and Holt, in Missouri. The warning is in effect until 10:30 a.m.
